CALDER NORTHERN DIVISION
TRAIN ORDERS February 2022

Welcome to the latest edition of Train Orders.

Member news

Sadly Les Herriott has been in hospital for a broken leg but was discharged from hospital on 1st
February. Currently his son is looking after him, I’m sure you’ll all join with me in wishing Les a
speedy recovery.

The Committee

To keep you up to date. Roy is having some difficulties in finding a new bank account for the club.
He is looking for a bank that has an active branch in Crewe where he can pay in money and this is
proving difficult, everyone wants you to use electronic banking and go cashless. Thanks Roy for
all your efforts and for Tony for his assistance to Roy.

Meetings at Crewe

The Heritage Centre will be re-opening on 2nd April and we will need to man the layout from the
date. Paul Mitchell will be in touch with everyone shortly to ask about peoples availability to help
with this important task. It is important because it is a condition of our lease with CHC that the
layout is running when they are open.

The list of meeting dates is on both the NMRA website and the Calder Northern one. I’ve also
included them at the end of this copy of Train Orders.
The committee has been thinking about the regular meets with a view to making them more
interesting and enjoyable, Tony is leading this. Current ideas being considered are opening up
Devils Creek and running it rather than ignoring it, having a proper operating session on Western
Mills and having a working weekend on all layouts in preparation for the convention. If anyone has
any suggestions, let me know.

Conventions

Planning for The Crewe North Junction makes progress. While things have been hampered by
Covid and ill health the hotel is booked, an initial floor plan for the exhibition hall has been drawn
up, the convention website with its’ booking form is up and running and exhibitors and traders are
being confirmed.
The convention will be an opportunity to show the rest of the NMRA and outsiders what Calder
Northern is capable, of and a chance to perhaps attract some new members.

The “virtual” NMRA

The next national Brew & Natter session will be 19th February at 1600, note the different time.
Following comments from members that the weekend and zoom meetings were too close together
I have re-arranged things. Therefore, the next CN zoom meeting is 28th February at 7pm. There
are also meetings scheduled for 28th March and 25th April, again at 7pm. If attendance is good
then I will arrange for more meetings going further into the year.

General

Work has progressed on the changes to NW Mills, although progress has been hampered by Covid
precautions. The next layout to be worked on is Devils Creek, while I have been progressing Baltic Street
at home. There is still quite a lot to be done to be ready for the convention, so if anyone hasa some time
on a Wednesday morning we would be pleased to see them from 10am onwards.
That’s all for now, stay well everybody,

Alan.
